What to compare first.
Open deck or sit-in
River Gorge uses an open-deck arrangement. Argo 136XP is a sit-in tandem. Have both paddlers check their seating space instead of relying on the front seat alone.
Share the load limit
The 500 lb figure covers the combined load. Count both people and all their equipment. A middle molded position is not an automatic third-adult seat.
Measure more than length
River Gorge is 13 feet long and 34 inches wide. Argo is 13 feet 6 inches by 31.75 inches. Check storage supports, turning room and how two people will carry either boat.
River Gorge or Argo?
The River Gorge is six inches shorter and 2.25 inches wider than the Argo tandem. Its table weight is six pounds higher. That makes the comparison more specific than “open versus enclosed”: transport space and how each paddler fits also matter.
